Auspicious Elephants

“If you do not have a memory like an elephant, leave impressions like one.”

Unknown.

Although not commonly associated with China in the modern age, Elephants have been around in China since before the 14th century BC, as shown in both archeological evidence and depictions in Chinese artwork.

This pair of little cuties made their way into our hands, with their backs carved with multiple auspicious figures and symbols. The bat (representing longevity and fortune), the double fish (representing abundance), and a Chinese Coin (representing wealth), all make these little elephants most lucky indeed!

As candle-holders, they also bring warmth and light into the room, and we love their little wrinkled knees.

Pop-in to POP-UP BEIJING, and see if you can find these blessed little beauties amongst our many treasures…
